Give it a Chance!

Give us the chance to carry the responsibility!

Within the last week of school female students have been informed that “oversized” purses are not allowed during classes.  According to staff “oversized purses” refers to bags that are maybe twice the size of a typical wallet.  The decision makers did not consider that girls need their purses; why else would they carry around the heavy luggage all day?   “Girls actually need their purses,” stated Tracy Deebach, a junior at East Ridge.  During school hours purses typically contain school materials, (such as calculator, writing utensils, glasses, etc.)  as well as a wallet (which contains the school id that we are suppose to have with us at all times) make-up, and other useful accessories that female teachers also use throughout the day.  If female teachers are allowed to carry their purses why aren’t female students?  All girls that carry around purses use is it to hold lady health needs.  “Girl accidents” happen, all of the time, probably everyday to a girl and one would not notice.  The misfortune is always saved because of the purse.  In truth, purses provide more class time.  Look at the list of objects that are in a person’s purse.  It would be nearly impossible to be able to carry all of that with our two hands plus the schoolwork.  If we are not allowed to bring our purses to class students will be constantly writing out passes to go to their lockers losing valuable learning time.   One could argue that large purses give girls the opportunity to use materials that are restricted in class, for example cell phones.  But, guys use their pockets as a tool to text as well?  Taking away the purses will not prevent cell phone use.   What harm have purses done during learning time? Why are girls forced to break the routine of carrying around a purse when they were allowed to do it all throughout junior high and for juniors last year at Woodbury or Park?  Woodbury and Park high school still allow girls to carry around their purses and there are multiple high schools that let students carry around their backpacks and there are no reported issues.  Especially since this is a new school the staff should give the girls a chance to be able to carry our purses and carry the responsibility until an event occurs in which the rule would be considered a discipline.

Hi there, nice site with good info. I really like coming back here often. There’s only one thing that annoys me and that is the misfunctioning of comment posting. I usually get to 500 error page, and have to do the post twice.

I agree with this one. We get nothing at this school and they take more and more away everyday.
