East Ridge lacking school spirit
By Kelly Nichols
Although East Ridge is thought to be an improvement when it comes to other schools, most students are reluctant to go. Not only are students forced to leave their friends and classmates behind, they are also required to change their mascot and football team. Most East Ridge students don’t mind the change of scenery, but a few feel more strongly over the matter. One thing that has already become apparent is the rivalry between the multiple schools. Although students still remain close with their old friends, there is still a competitive barrier in place whenever sports and other activities are involved.
When asked about whether they liked Woodbury or East Ridge better, one student stated that although they missed their friends back at Woodbury, East Ridge seemed to have a better academic opportunity. “-because East Ridge is newer than the other schools it seems to have better experience s and more opportunities to learn.” They explained after asked further about their opinions. Another student from Park couldn’t disagree more. “This school almost seems too easy, and we have almost no school spirit here.” Because the football players are unfamiliar to the students and themselves, there isn’t as much school spirit as there could be, leaving many students disappointed when they go to the Pep Fest. “The Pep Fest almost seems like a joke because almost no one cheers along with the cheerleaders.”
Some believe East Ridge is new and one might think more efficient than the other schools, the rivaling schools feel the need to beat us at every sport possible. Even though they are almost successful in beating East Ridge in most sports, the East Ridge Raptors will soon find their strengths and become a better team altogether. Soon, our school will be full of school spirit and pride for our sports teams. As we struggle to find our place in our new surroundings, we are coming closer to form a stronger school.
